Ryder expands vehicle maintenance portfolio with preventive, on-demand services

Vehicle rental and leasing giant Ryder System Inc. said today it has expanded its leasing portfolio to offer "preventive" and "on-demand" maintenance services to accompany the all-in maintenance offered under its full-service leasing program.

The three services are combined under the "ChoiceLease" name, according to Miami-based Ryder. The combined platform offers leasing customers the choice of bumper-to-bumper maintenance coverage, preventive work, or pay-as-you-go services, Ryder said.

The "full-service" option is Ryder's traditional lease that comes with all maintenance included. The preventive option provides customers with preventive maintenance on new and used vehicles, enabling them to choose how to handle repairs or maintenance outside of preventive checks, Ryder said. The on-demand option offers access to Ryder's national maintenance network on a pay-as-you-go basis, the company said.

The latter offering is available on used power units and on new and used trailers, Ryder said.

The initiative can benefit truck fleets of all sizes, according to Jennifer Hanlon, a Ryder spokeswoman. As an example, large fleets might find the "on-demand" option appealing because it allows them to fill any internal maintenance gaps by utilizing Ryder's network, Hanlon said.
