Menlo Worldwide Logistics, the global logistics subsidiary of Con-way Inc., today launched a service designed to reorganize and bundle the company's transportation management service offerings into a single, comprehensive plan.
The service, "Menlo Transportation Services," will be composed of two categories, Menlo said. The first, called "Solutions Engineering," will analyze and benchmark a customer's transportation operations, and develop a more efficient way of moving its freight, the company said.
The second, "Transportation Management," is a basic transportation management system but will be available to all of Menlo's customers in a standardized format. In the past, Menlo offered the service on a customer-by-customer basis.
In addition, the Solutions Engineering component will, for the first time, incorporate so-called Lean efficiency principles into the re-engineering of transportation operations. Previously, Menlo used the practice to help companies redesign their warehousing and overall supply chain operations.
The company said it would also bundle its software programs in a move to give customers total visibility of the process.
The service marks the first time Menlo has taken the disparate services and consolidated them into a broad program available to the entire marketplace, the company said.
