Most of us probably have never thought of port operations as a source of entertainment. But the folks who brought us "Deadliest Catch," the surprise Discovery Channel hit about Alaskan crab fishing, have turned their creative eye to the Port of Los Angeles. The nation's largest container port is the "star" of "America's Port," a new series on the National Geographic Channel.
The show's Web site describes the port in terms that make LA's own PR machine look like a model of restraint. "'America's Port' provides an unblinking view of this vibrant and colorful nerve center for global trade— the Port of Los Angeles," it reads. "Get an inside look at this massive complex and the intrepid individuals charged with keeping it running smoothly and securely 365 days a year. It's a dynamic and dangerous 24/7 operation."
