We have some bad news for road warriors who frequently find themselves stuck in traffic: Hardship pay's going to be tough to come by this year. Truck drivers campaigning for a hike in per-mile pay for driving in congested areas aren't likely to meet with much success. In a survey of fleet managers conducted by Rand McNally, a company that markets commercial trucking software and road atlases, only 20 percent of fleet managers indicated they planned to offer extra compensation to those drivers.
In fact, the survey results indicated that drivers would be hard pressed to obtain any increases at all this year. While 50 percent of the 424 fleet managers surveyed reported that driver requests for raises had remained level in the past year, 46 percent said they did not plan to give any increases this year.
