  • Upward mobility. For the fourth consecutive year, LXE has received the Mobile Star Award from MobileVillage for the best customer service in the mobile hardware category. The Mobile Star Awards honor and promote companies, products, deployments and leaders in the use of wireless and mobile technology. Winners are chosen by readers of "Go Mobile," MobileVillage's online newsletter for technology executives, mobile users, buyers, IT managers and developers.
  • Two biggies. Schneider National has received recognition from two important customers. Wal-Mart has honored Schneider as its Intermodal Carrier of the Year. The award is given to carriers that provide exceptional quality, flexibility, communication and customer service. Ford Motor Co. has also given Schneider's automotive customer service team Q1 certification, Ford's highest recognition of superior supplier quality and service. Schneider has provided logistics services to Ford since 1995.
  • Safe and secure. The American Trucking Associations' Safety and Loss Prevention Council has named ABF Freight System as the top motor carrier in both claims/loss prevention and security. ABF is the only carrier to earn both the Excellence in Claims/Loss Prevention Award and the Excellence in Security Award in the same year.
  • Shining stars. Crown Lift Trucks and Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America have both received MASTAR awards for their roles in supplying material handling equipment to Masco Corp., a Taylor, Mich.-based company that provides home improvement and building products. The MASTAR awards recognize suppliers for working with Masco to reduce costs and improve quality, health and safety.
  • Hail from the chief. The American Trucking Associations (ATA) has presented its President's Trophy to A. Duie Pyle Inc. of West Chester, Pa. The President's Trophy is the highest safety award available to truckers in the United States. Awards are presented each year to logistics companies in three categories based on the number of miles driven. A. Duie Pyle, an integrated logistics service provider serving the Northeast, was honored in the 25 million to 100 million mile category.
  • Sun rising. Sun Microsystems has presented its Meritorious Supply Performance Award for 2005 to Kuehne + Nagel. The award recognizes the supplier for exemplary distribution support. Kuehne + Nagel fields critical calls from field engineers needing electronics and computer parts from Sun. The supplier then arranges for the parts' expedited delivery from one of 120 stocking locations.

Logistics gives back: October 2024

For the past seven years, third-party service provider ODW Logistics has provided logistics support for the Pelotonia Ride Weekend, a campaign to raise funds for cancer research at The Ohio State University’s Comprehensive Cancer Center–Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. As in the past, ODW provided inventory management services and transportation for the riders’ bicycles at this year’s event. In all, some 7,000 riders and 3,000 volunteers participated in the ride weekend.

Vanderlande to acquire Siemens Logistics for $325 million

The logistics process automation provider Vanderlande has agreed to acquire Siemens Logistics for $325 million, saying its specialty in providing value-added baggage and cargo handling and digital solutions for airport operations will complement Netherlands-based Vanderlande’s business in the warehousing, airports, and parcel sectors.

The acquisition has received approval from the Supervisory and Management Boards of both Vanderlande and its parent company Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) as well as the Management Board of parent company Siemens AG.

Resilience is a daily fight

I recently came across a report showing that 86% of CEOs around the world see resiliency problems in their supply chains, and that business leaders are spending more time than ever tackling supply chain-related challenges. Initially I was surprised, thinking that the lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic surely prepared industry leaders for just about anything, helping to bake risk and resiliency planning into corporate strategies for companies of all sizes.
