YILPORT Implements Navis N4 3.7 at Puerto Bolivar Terminal

Implementation is part of bigger modernization effort at terminal to improve current operations and output

Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, and the provider of operational technologies and services that unlock greater performance and efficiency for the world's leading organizations across the shipping supply chain, announced that Puerto Bolivar Terminal, operated by YILPORT, went live with Navis 3.7. The Navis project was part of a full terminal modernization effort to help take them from a manual terminal down a path of implementing more automated and data-driven services to increase terminal capacity and strengthen the terminal's operational performance

Located in Ecuador, YILPORT Puerto Bolivar handles over 150,000 TEU and one million tons of break bulk annually and has been growing steadily over the past several years. To help the terminal scale and operate at its full potential, the YILPORT team has put an emphasis on bringing in technology to improve its service and offerings including a recent investment in a new fleet of ship-to-shore (STS), electrified rubber tired gantry (E-RTG) from Mitsui, and now N4 with enhanced features including Compass. With the help of their in-house and local implementation teams, YILPORT was able to successfully go-live with N4 at the end of October 2019.

"Before we made steps toward applying automated services at Puerto Bolivar, we were using outdated systems for tracking and reporting our terminal operations thus, they were not being recorded in real-time," said Orkun Cakir, TOS Deployment Manager at YILPORT. "With the help of our diligent teams on-site we were able to implement N4 and supporting Navis features, to bring more value to our customers in the new year and beyond."

Along with N4 3.7, the Compass Visual Workflow Management Application, Crane Team User Interface, Expert Decking and Autostow will also be used at YILPORT Puerto Bolivar to help meet their business goals and streamline service.

"We are always looking for ways we can help our customers improve their processes and digitize their offerings to keep a competitive edge in the industry," said Chuck Schneider, Chief Customer Officer at Navis. "Data and analytics have become increasingly important for efficient decision making and we are thrilled to be working with YILPORT Puerto Bolivar to help bring their terminal into their next phase."

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
