Some companies are unknowingly losing profits because they are not shipping orders from the optimal distribution point. This may be the case even if the shipfrom location has been determined by a network study because oftentimes, these studies are based on the average order and not the specific shipment a customer requires.
To resolve this problem, Transportation | Warehouse Optimization (TWO) has developed AutoSPA (Automatic Ship Point Assignment). This new software is designed to replace the fixed-assignment logic in many enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems that assign the customer to just one distribution point. Instead AutoSPA selects the optimal ship point based on a particular order's cost and constraints, such as inventory availability, lead time, and site capability.
AutoSPA automatically determines the optimum origin point for each shipment by costing every possible alternative, including production costs as well as transfer and customer freight. AutoSPA can also use total net margin to determine the best ship point.
