Mobile safety module

April 1, 2008
No Comments

The mobile safety module from noax Technologies Corp. provides increased safety in mobile logistics applications using noax mobile PCs. The PC is connected with forklift electronics by means of a DIO supplement circuit board on the noax motherboard. This allows for various safety functions for safe mobile operation. The safety module is designed to prevent accidents caused by drivers who input information or respond to prompts on the touch-screen while the vehicle is in motion.

To avoid such accidents, the mobile safety module can be configured so that the brightness of the display will automatically be dimmed by a signal or become totally dark when the forklift starts to move. It is also possible to deactivate the touch or service keys while the vehicle is moving. Once the forklift stops, the driver will again have full access to the screen, touch and service keys, keyboard, or peripheral units. More functions can also be set by connecting the industrial PC and the forklift electronics, such as immediately turning on the PC during starting of the forklift.

In addition to accident prevention, the mobile safety module can also handle data security. Security-related access for the PC can be connected with the forklift by means of external software tools. To start a forklift, for example, an operator would be required to enter a password or have an RFID chip read that would identify that person as an authorized user. If the operator were to turn the forklift off for five minutes or longer, he would have to log in again when he resumed his work. Additionally, the noax computer can be coupled to forklift warning lights, acoustic signals, or the fork-control mechanism.

Presently, noax Technologies is offering two pre-set sample configurations of the mobile safety module with 12 functions each for its forklift computers. The parameter setup can be changed by means of a graphic program or through a configuration file inputted directly at the PC using an in-house logistics tool.
