Labelmate's new PM-300 is a fast, economical reel-to-reel label transport that, when combined with a commercially available print head, becomes an ideal system for printing or over-printing labels. The unit comes in two versions, the PM-300 and the PM-300-HS (High-Speed), to accommodate various print head speeds. The PM-300 can print and rewind a 12-inch diameter roll (about 1,400 linear feet) of labels in less than seven minutes. The highspeed PM-300-HS can print and rewind the same roll in less than five minutes. The model choice is dictated by how fast the inkjet head being used can print.
Most production-line inkjet systems can easily interface to the PM-300 through a single nine-pin connector. The PM-300 provides speed and label detection signals to the print head and can also act on an error signal from the print head. The built-in encoder has a linear resolution of 0.0016 inches supporting up to 600 dpi print resolution.
The PM-300 is cost-effective and fast for adding variable data to pre-printed labels. The low cost of inkjet cartridges makes the cost per label a fraction of printing with thermal transfer labels and ribbons. The PM-300, if ordered with the optional counter, can also be used as an accurate digital reel-to-reel label counter.
