Kion Group, the world's second largest and Europe's number one manufacturer of forklifts, is moving into the North American market in a big way. The company had previously announced that it would focus on introducing forklifts specifically designed for the North American market in 2017, and it made good on that promise with a big lineup of new trucks—four from Linde and one from its lower-priced, entry-level brand, Baoli. "It's a historic time for Kion North America," said Vincent Halma, president and CEO. "This is the largest new product introduction in both our company and material handling industry history."
The new models include the Linde Series 1347, an electric cushion-tire truck powered by either a 36V or 48V battery. The Linde Series 1219 and 1319 are two internal-combustion counterbalanced torque converter trucks. The 1219 is suited for outdoor applications, while the 1319 is designed for indoor use. All three trucks feature load capacities from 5,000 to 6,500 pounds. Finally, the Baoli KBD series features a Tier 4 Final diesel engine and load capacities of up to 7,000 pounds.
Kion also announced that it would spend more than $5 million to upgrade its lift truck manufacturing facility in Summerville, S.C., this year.
