Continuing to expand its presence in the supply chain services area, the Fortune 500 printing firm RR Donnelley & Sons Co. has acquired Tampa, Fla.-based third-party logistics company Courier Advisory Group (CAG), the company recently announced.
CAG has experience as a carrier in the pharmaceutical, film processing, medical, retail, government, food, and general office distribution-services areas. The company is a certified woman-owned business (or women's business enterprise—WBE) that operates 34 warehouse locations in the Midwest and eastern U.S.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The purchase of CAG is part of Chicago-based RR Donnelly's strategy to extend beyond its core business of serving as a printing and publishing clearinghouse. In August, the company announced it would split into three publicly traded companies by the end of 2016. The divisions would encompass financial communications and data services, publishing and retail-centric print services, and fulfillment and logistics.
RR Donnelly acquired CAG to expand the capabilities of this nascent logistics group by improving its ability to meet clients' last-mile delivery needs, the company announced.
"With over 14 years of strong performance, Courier Advisory Group is an excellent fit for RR Donnelley's Logistics business," RR Donnelley Logistics president Chuck Fattore said in an Oct. 21 statement. "This transaction complements our March 2015 acquisition of United Express System and expands our offering in the growing last-mile delivery space."
