Transplace, a non-asset based third party logistics provider, plans this month to expand its service offerings to the small to mid-size shipper and retailer market, company officials said at the CSCMP Annual Global Conference.
Until now, Dallas-based Transplace had focused its services on the Fortune 1000 companies. Expanding into the "SMB" (small and medium-sized business) market reflects management's confidence that its business model offers as much value to small firms as it does for larger ones, executives said.
Transplace said the new business unit will be headed by Steve Robinson, an industry veteran who has done stints at UPS Inc. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc., among other companies. With his diverse background, Robinson is the ideal person to run a division offering services to a wide array of companies and industries, executives say.
