It's still in the thick of the cut-throat newspaper readership battle in New York City. But The New York Post has decided to get out of the newspaper delivery rat race. In June, the Post announced that it was handing off the task of getting its 680,000 daily copies to New York City readers to Ryder System Inc. The sixth-largest newspaper in the nation, the Post is looking to boost its efficiency as part of an initiative to expand its circulation reach and improve customer service.
Under a multi-year full-service lease contract, Ryder will provide 150 customized vehicles, fleet management and preventive and programmed maintenance services. This integrated transportation solution will help the Post improve its transportation efficiency and delivery timeliness using a combination of specially designed trucks and equipment.
Ryder has been serving the newspaper and publishing industry for more than 53 years and currently has business relationships with more than 70 newspapers nationally, including the Chicago Tribune, The Dallas Morning News, The Kansas City Star, Los Angeles Times and The Miami Herald.
