ProShip's Automated Packing Solution Named a 2017 MHI Innovation Award Finalist

ProShip's Automated Packing Solution Named a 2017 MHI Innovation Award Finalist

MHI, an international trade association that represents the material handling, logistics and supply chain industry, announced the CVP-500, an automated packing solution by ProShip, Inc., a Neopost company, has been named a finalist for the 2017 MHI Innovation Award.

The MHI Innovation Award educates attendees of ProMat, the largest international material handling, logistics and supply chain show and conference held in North America and South America, about the latest manufacturing and supply chain products and services offered. With over 150 submissions received this year, professionals in the material handling and supply chain industry judged the nominations on cost savings, customer satisfaction, ROI and more. The judges selected four finalists in each category: Best New Innovation; Best Innovation of an Existing Product; and Best IT Innovation based on concept, value and impact.

ProShip's CVP-500 was selected as a finalist in the Best New Innovation category for its fit-to-size packing automation that optimizes the fulfillment process. The CVP-500 builds, fills, folds and labels single and multi-item orders with variable dimensions in one seamless process and creates a custom-fit parcel every seven seconds. The innovative system also includes the robust parcel rating engine that is part of ProShip's multi-carrier shipping solution to capture a final weight and dimension for each parcel, and then "rate shop" up to 70 potential carriers for the lowest possible shipping costs.

"We are thrilled to be a finalist in the 2017 MHI Innovation Awards as a Best New Innovation," said Tim Casey, President of ProShip, Inc. "While some companies can generate custom-sized parcels, many still depend on manual packing. The CVP-500 automates every step of order fulfillment to create a more cost-effective process. Distribution and warehouse operations will enjoy the reliable and more efficient fulfillment process to get more orders out the door fast."

The CVP-500 will be at ProMat 2017, where ProShip will present the system's unique solutions to a panel of judges on the show floor on April 3, 2017. The winners in each category will be announced at ProMat 2017 on April 5, 2017 during MHI Industry Night.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.
