RailTrack System

The RailTrack System from APS Technology Group is a visual inventory tracking system for rail yard and intermodal terminal operations. The system automates the manually intensive trackside inventory process that occurs following a train's arrival. It also maintains the current inventory as equipment is shuffled from track to track.

As a train enters the facility, the company's Rail OCR POréal or two stand-alone AEI readers identify each car. This information is sent to a central computer that records the equipment number, type and sequence. Overhead CCTV cameras deployed on existing light poles then monitor the moving traffic below. The RailTrack system "locks on" to the specific equipment and begins visually tracking it. As the train is broken up onto storage or working tracks within the yard, cameras continue to watch the activity below, which allows the system to provide ongoing updates of the exact GPS coordinates of each piece of equipment.
