Transplace, a non-asset–based third-party logistics service provider, plans to expand its service offerings to the small to mid-sized shipper and retailer market this month, company officials said at September's Annual Global Conference of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.
Until now, Dallas-based Transplace had focused its services on the Fortune 1,000 companies. Expanding into the SMB (small and medium-sized business) market reflects management's confidence that its business model offers as much value to small firms as it does for larger ones, executives said.
Transplace said the new business unit will be headed by Steve Robinson, an industry veteran who has done stints at UPS Inc. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc., among other companies. With his diverse background, Robinson is the ideal person to run a division offering services to a wide array of companies and industries, executives said.
