Inbound Logistics Names LLamasoft a 2018 Top 100 Logistics IT Provider

Supply chain design leader recognized for helping customers minimize supply chain costs and improve efficiencies

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (May 8, 2018) - LLamasoft, a global leader in supply chain design solutions, is proud to announce that it has been recognized by Inbound Logistics, a leading supply chain publication, as a 2018 Top 100 Logistics IT Provider. LLamasoft was recognized for its innovative supply chain design software, which helps organizations worldwide to model, optimize and simulate their supply chain network, leading to major improvements in cost, service, sustainability and risk mitigation.

"It's essential that supply chains are able to adapt quickly to planned and unplanned changes that could result at any time due to legislation, weather, competitor moves, seasonal demand, evolving customer preferences, and a myriad of other factors," said Bill Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer of LLamasoft. "Supply chain design technology enables companies to create a digital twin of their supply chain, where they can experiment with new ideas in a risk-free environment, identify opportunities for cost savings and continually improve their supply chain operations. This award reinforces how our software is helping customers maximize their ability to provide excellent customer service while meeting profitability goals."

Every April, Inbound Logistics editors recognize 100 Logistics IT companies that support and enable excellence. Drawn from a pool of more than 300 companies, using questionnaires, personal interviews and other research, Inbound Logistics selects the Top 100 Logistics IT Providers who are leading the way in 2018. Editors seek to match readers' fast-changing needs to the capabilities of those companies selected. All companies selected reflect leadership by answering Inbound Logistics readers' needs for scalability, simplicity, fast ROI and ease of implementation.

"As business leaders struggle to balance the need for advance planning against the demands for supply chain agility, fewer inventory touches and the complexity of omni-channel and e-commerce distribution regimes, LLamasoft continues to provide solutions to help meet those challenges. That is why Inbound Logistics editors have recognized the company as one of 2018's Top 100 Logistics IT Providers," said Felecia Stratton, Editor, Inbound Logistics.

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.
