Transportation Insight Climbs List of Largest, Privately Held North Carolina Companies

October 12, 2016

Transportation Insight, a global Enterprise Logistics provider, announces it has again been recognized by? Business North Carolina as one of the very largest privately held companies in North Carolina. The multi-modal logistics provider and business strategist jumped two places to No. 4 in the 2016 Grant Thornton North Carolina 100®. The 3PL is among a handful of North Carolina companies included in the ranking's top gross revenue tier.

Transportation Insight credits its co-managed business model for continued success in serving more than 1,200 global clients with logistics and supply chain solutions. The company enhanced its portfolio of services in late 2015 with the acquisition of a leading parcel shipping solutions provider. Earlier this year, the supply chain problem-solver launched its newly branded transactional freight division, BirdDog Logistics. Transportation Insight received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 2016 SmartWay® Excellence Award last month for its efforts to help partners reduce their environmental impact through better transportation and operational strategies. This year, the company made its ninth consecutive appearance in the Inc. 500|5000 list of fastest-growing, privately held companies in the United States.

"In less than 20 years, Transportation Insight has grown from being a specialist in domestic Less-than-Truckload transportation to a lead logistics provider with top tier solutions in all modes of transportation," says Transportation Insight CEO Chris Baltz. "We've continued our aggressive growth trajectory by delivering measurable results to our valued client partners through our consultative business model, breadth of supply chain services and ability to provide customized solutions based on the specific needs of manufacturers, distributors and retailers."

Transportation Insight's ascension above the $1 billion revenue mark in the North Carolina 100 reflects the company's progress toward its Vision 20/20 growth goal unveiled in 2014 as a blueprint for the logistics provider's path toward tripling its size and achieving $3.5-$5 billion in revenue by Jan. 1, 2020. Several Transportation Insight clients appear alongside the 3PL in the list, where the top three companies are unchanged from last year. Transportation Insight is the only transportation and logistics consultant included in the top 40 of this year's North Carolina 100. With 417 employees, the services company relies primarily on a workforce of analysts, engineers and supply chain professionals.

The annual ranking, compiled by Grant Thornton, LLP, is published in Business North Carolina's October edition, which also celebrates the publication's first-ever individual awards for company leaders featured in the ranking and nominated by their colleagues. Transportation Insight Founder and Chairman Paul Thompson is recognized as Cultural Leader of the Year for his commitment to establishing a corporate culture of continuous improvement that is focused on ensuring the long-term sustainability of the company, its clients and the communities it calls home.

"We are extremely fortunate to be recognized as one of the largest private companies in North Carolina," Thompson says. "Our people are the foundation of our success in the logistics marketplace. They are passionate about helping our clients become significantly better, and by combining their expertise with our unique technology platform, we drive enterprise improvement in ways that never compromise our integrity or our commitment to our partners."

Grant Thornton has compiled the North Carolina 100 since 1984 by ranking companies based on data voluntarily submitted from the most recent fiscal year. The list is restricted to companies that do not have publicly traded stock.
