BNSF Logistics LLC, the multimodal logistics services subsidiary of BNSF Railway Co., said late yesterday it has acquired Transportation Technology Services (TTS), which provides rail logistics and engineering services for outsized cargoes, notably in the wind-energy market.
Founded in 2001 as a rail engineering company, Southlake, Texas-based TTS has broadened its portfolio to include services ranging from railcar design to loading, inspection, and management of complex project-cargo shipments, BNSF Logistics said in a statement.
"TTS's engineering and design capabilities, extensive wind fixtures, and rail transload locations, coupled with their talent and market expertise in industrial products, are a perfect fit for our broader expansion into the industrial-products sector that handles freight of all sizes," said Ray Greer, president of Flower Mound, Texas-based BNSF Logistics, in the statement.
TTS manages a fleet of nearly 2,000 rail cars for various clients. Of those, 1,200 are equipped with fixtures designed to handle such wind-turbine components as blades, tower sections, and nacelles, BNSF Logistics said.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
