Transplace acquires Canadian 3PL Lakeside Logistics

Deal expands Transplace's North American footprint.

By DC Velocity Staff

Transportation management services provider Transplace has acquired Lakeside Logistics Inc., a Canadian-based logistics services company, the companies said Monday.

Dallas-based third party logistics provider (3PL) Transplace made the deal to grow its North American footprint and meet its customers' growing supply chain needs, the company said. This is Transplace's latest effort to expand its northern territory in recent years, including the 2012 acquisition of Canadian 3PL Torus Freight Systems and the 2014 opening of offices in Calgary and Montreal.

Transplace has also grown by acquiring the Greenville, S.C., 3PL M33 Integrated in 2015, and by expanding its rail intermodal offerings in the U.S.-Mexico market in 2014.

Terms of the new transaction were not disclosed.

Owned by Greenbriar Equity Group LLC, Transplace generates annual revenue in excess of $1.6 billion by providing transportation management services, as well as intermodal, brokerage and software-as-a-service (SaaS)-based transportation management system (TMS) solutions, supplemented by supply chain strategy consulting services, for a customer base of manufacturers, retailers, consumer goods, and chemical companies.

Lakeside Logistics, with headquarters in Oakville, Ont., delivers customized managed transportation services and solutions to help shippers optimize supply chain operations and reduce transportation costs, Lakeside said.

"Joining Transplace gives our current customers access to the company's broad range of transportation services, logistics technology, and deep industry expertise," Jeff Moore, the president and CEO of Lakeside Logistics, said in a release. "We look to continue to grow Transplace's footprint in Canada and provide outstanding service and value to existing and new customers."

Lakeside will operate as part of Transplace's Transportation Management business, which is led by President and COO Frank McGuigan, and all employees will report to Transplace Senior Vice President of Operations John Kelly.
