Today Sonwil Distribution Center—a leading North American logistics solutions provider—announced the deployment of an Orange EV T-Series pure-electric terminal truck to the company's 300,000 square foot warehouse and distribution center located in Buffalo, New York. The replacement of diesel with an Orange EV electric yard truck enhances Sonwil's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, while reinforcing the company's focus on utilizing innovative solutions to increase efficiency and reduce costs in service to their customers.
"Our philosophy is to always place our customers first and continually work to add value to meet their evolving needs, while strengthening their competitive advantage, and never losing focus of sustainability and efficiency," said Dave Harper, President of Innovative Transportation Services (ITS), a subsidiary of Sonwil Distribution's Transportation Consolidated Services (TCS). "Sonwil likes to remain on the leading-edge with clean technologies and was one of the first thousand orders for Class 8 12-liter CNG tractors. Now, we are forging ahead into Class 8 electric. The Orange EV truck is a good fit and aligns with our mission, both in eliminating emissions, reducing maintenance and providing site-specific electric vehicle solutions - with the potential for reduced costs. And, compared to the steeper learning curve of CNG, the electric yard horse was easy to get acclimated with."
The Orange EV complete electric terminal truck solution offers full operational coverage and includes trucks, charging capabilities, telematics, on-site training, manuals, equipment warranty, technical support, and other custom features. Sonwil Distribution is now operating a new T-Series Extended Duty Terminal Truck with Standard Onboard Charging, which has proven to perform well in both warm and cold climates.
Diesel yard trucks are generally considered more costly to operate due to fuel expense, maintenance, and emission control requirements. In addition, employee health and safety factors due to exhaust fumes, heat, noise, and dust also prompted Sonwil Distribution to explore introducing additional alternative equipment options at the company's Buffalo facility.
"The Orange EV electric has reduced maintenance, kept our drivers happy, and will offer long-term operational cost savings," continued Harper. "To other fleets out there that may be considering electric, my recommendation would be to not be afraid and dive in—the rewards are there."
