By combining sand and plastic, Paxxal Inc., a shipping platform company, has created a composite pallet that has some properties similar to wood. Paxxal unveiled a version of this siluma plastic pallet that was designed specifically for the North American market at ProMat 2017 this week.
What makes siluma plastic unique is that the sand acts as a natural fire retardant, the company said. That means Paxxal pallets do not need to be treated with a fire retardant, unlike most other plastic and composite plastic pallets. The Paxxal pallet is currently in the process of being certified by Factory Mutual and Underwriters Laboratories.
The pallet weighs between 44 and 45 pounds and costs between $50 and $60.
