Serco's Vertical Storing Leveler (VSL) allows facility dock workers to open truck trailer doors into the building. That enables trailers with hinged doors to back into a dock with the doors closed, instead of being opened by the driver before the trailer pulls into position. This special dock configuration offers facilities the ability to save money through lower energy bills, loss prevention, and increased productivity.
Since the trailer's doors are able to open into the facility after the trailer is parked at the dock, temperature fluctuations in both the facility and the trailer are minimized, saving energy and preventing food spoilage. In addition, the opening of the doors inside the facility prevents pilferage of products in the driveway. Homeland Security seals are able to be cut in the facility by the owner, ensuring the integrity and security of the product.
This configuration also increases productivity by cutting down on trailer handling. If a trailer is received after hours, it can pull straight through to the dock and keep its doors closed. This eliminates double or triple handling, and enables a facility to open the dock door and trailer doors the next day without repositioning the trailer.
The Serco VSL can be mounted on either a continuous shelf or in a shallow pit, and can be further enhanced by integration with 4Sight, an intelligent dock management software package designed to increase productivity and security at a loading dock.
