TNT and Con-way Freight have expanded their year-old multimodal alliance to provide export services from the United States to Europe.
Under the service, which is geared to heavier-weight consignments, Con-way will handle the U.S. pickup, consolidation, and loading of Europe-bound shipments at New York's Kennedy International Airport. TNT will clear the goods upon arrival at its European hub at Belgium's Liege Airport. The shipments will then enter TNT's air and road network for final delivery. The companies estimate a three- to six-day delivery window from departure at JFK to arrival at final destinations in Europe. The U.S. export service mirrors a similar operation for U.S. imports that began last April.
"Our alliance with TNT allows us to provide fast, reliable intercontinental service to meet the growing international shipping needs of our customers, which is increasingly important in today's global economy," said John G. Labrie, president, Con-way Freight, in a statement.
Added Matt McDonough, president of North America, TNT, "U.S. customers looking for a reliable solution to handle their export business to Europe now have a faster and more cost-effective option for their freight shipments."
