Electric and diesel tow-tractor product line for U.S. market

November 1, 2007
No Comments

Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A. is now offering its electric and diesel tow-tractor product line in the U.S. market. The newly designed electric tow tractors are available in 3,300- and 4,000-pound drawbar pull capacities. They are especially suitable for operations where meeting air quality or government fleet average requirements are considerations. The diesel tow tractors, which are available in 4,400- and 5,500-pound drawbar pull capacities, are tailored to meet the needs of material handling and baggage handling requirements that call for long runs in very highcycle operations.

The new electric tow tractors feature an 80-volt AC-drive system that provides multiple benefits, including quicker acceleration, higher top speeds, and extended peak operating time maintained throughout the entire shift. A streamlined AC-drive motor offers a virtually maintenance-free system. Toyota built three forms of regeneration into the design of the electric tow tractors, which helps to recover energy and extend battery performance. In addition, an automatic shut-off feature turns the vehicle off after 30 minutes of idle time to prevent unnecessary battery drainage. Other design features focus on enhancing operator comfort and convenience. The operator's compartment is laid out to enhance visibility of the meters and gauges, and a single-pin drawbar quickrelease hitch enables the operator to release carts without having to leave the seat. (Other hitch options are available to meet specific application requirements.)

The diesel tow-tractor lineup features a powerful 2.4-liter Toyota 1DZ-II diesel engine to help overcome the challenges of hauling large loads at high speeds over long distances and up steep ramps and grades. The diesel engine is Tier II emissions compliant. An optional steel cabin offers greater operator comfort and productivity for working in extreme weather conditions. A single pin drawbar quick-release hitch is standard.

All of the Toyota tow tractors feature a rugged unibody design with a bolt-on counterweight, which ensures that the unit can withstand years of heavy use. To keep impact damage to a minimum, the tow tractors are designed with inset headlights and highmounted tail lamps. Toyota's tow tractors also offer a tight turning radius for greater maneuverability.
