Edgeware edge controller

Comtrol Corp.'s Edgeware edge controller is a tool for moving an RFID pilot into production. In addition to integrating enterprise applications, devices, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Edgeware now comes with DualConnectPlus Technology. This Comtrol technology can simultaneously connect both serial and Ethernet devices to PLCs and other applications. It also provides filtering of string, RFID, and bar-code data while extracting the bar-code and RFID parameters.

The Edgeware controller enables enterprise applications, including SAP and Oracle, to have real-time visibility of plant-floor devices, such as RFID readers. Edgeware does this with distributed architecture and embedded industrial Ethernet protocols, including Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, and Modbus/TCP. On-demand business decisions can be made based on real-time information that is gathered from RFID readers, bar-code scanners, sensors, and other devices.
