Nix of America has developed a plastic called ARINIX that is embedded with a slow-release pesticide that protects against intrusion by fire ants and other crawling insects for up to five years. ARINIX is available in plastic strips in several shapes (grommet, flat, Lshaped or spiral), which can be placed on or along access points or wrapped around wires, pipes or the base of a tree or doorway. A technician wearing a pair of gloves can easily install protection in just minutes.
ARINIX is resistant to water and solvents, and the nylon composite gives it heat tolerance and durability. The company says that testing has shown the product to be effective on motion detectors, air conditioning units, high-voltage transformers, and a wide variety of other ground structures and industrial facilities.
