a2b Fulfillment Sponsors Second Harvest Food Distribution

Employees Put Logistics Experience to work to Help Local Community

a2b Fulfillment Sponsors Second Harvest Food Distribution

On August 19th, a2b Fulfillment employees put their logistics experience to work for The Second Harvest Food Distribution in Greensboro, Ga. Held every third Saturday of the month, the event distributes food to needy families within Greene County, Georgia. a2b Fulfillment was sponsor for the August event that included distribution of nearly 10,000 pounds of high quality food, including 4,700 pounds of fresh produce. The event reached 221 families representing 579 people.

"Our Second Harvest group is always so very thankful for the volunteer efforts of local individuals and businesses like a2b Fulfillment," says Dave Davidson, Treasurer for Second Harvest, Inc. "Second Harvest has no paid staff and is a one-hundred percent volunteer effort. Because of that we are able to fully maximize the funding we receive from our community."

The Second Harvest food distribution is a signature project of the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties with a mission to eliminate hunger. Food for the program is obtained through leveraging cash donations, rescuing excess food from The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee and Publix Super Market, and through an accredited partnership with Golden Harvest, a food distribution agency of the Feeding America program.

"I am always amazed at what a great job the Rotary Club and Second Harvest volunteers do each month with this operation," says a2b Fulfillment President, Ayal Latz. "Our employees enjoy lending a hand each year and supporting these organizations in their mission to feed local families."

Australian supermarket chain rolls out AI-powered grocery carts

Grocery shoppers in Australia will soon be able to zip in and out of the store in record time, bypassing the lines for cashiers or self-checkout kiosks altogether. They can just walk in, make their selections, and walk out with their bags in hand.

The secret to this express shopping experience is the “Caper Cart,” an AI (artificial intelligence)-powered smart trolley from San Francisco-based Instacart. In its first deployment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the system is being tested by Coles Supermarkets, a food and beverage retailer with more than 1,800 grocery and liquor stores throughout the country.

How green is your glue?

If you’re looking to make the packaging process more eco-friendly, the obvious place to start is with the box itself. And that’s exactly what Salt Lake City-based Packsize did when it made its initial foray into sustainable packaging back in 2002. That year, the company launched its first product, an innovative on-demand packaging system designed to reduce cardboard waste (and the need for filler material) by creating a right-sized box for each shipment.

Now the company is ready for the next step: greening up the glue.
