Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, and provider of operational technologies and services that unlock greater performance and efficiency for the world's leading terminal operators, today announced a new N4 terminal operating system (TOS) licensing agreement with Chilean terminal, Puerto Lirquen. Puerto Lirquen is the 50th terminal in Latin America to contract to use Navis TOS. The terminal selected N4 to support its two primary goals: to increase terminal capacity and improve productivity. In addition, Puerto Lirquen looks to optimize their operations and maintain competitive advantages with a more modern platform.
Puerto Lirquen, located in the bay of Concepción in the Bío Bío region of Chile, is the largest private port of public service in the country. Puerto Lirquen manages 280,000 TEU annually and provides services for shipping companies, importers, and exporters, focusing on container and break bulk cargo. As a major industry player in Chile, Puerto Lirquen maintains proficient gate, yard and vessel productivity, zero EDI (electronic data interchange) transmission errors, provides simple and fluent customer information on its website, and offers customers efficient, user-friendly equipment.
"Our decision to select N4 is part of a larger investment plan to expand and modernize operations across the board, including the addition of mobile cranes, reach stackers, port trucks, a newly paved yard and an extension of our pier that can berth vessels up to 367 meters," said Juan Alberto Arancibia, Managing Director of Puerto Lirquen. "In an industry as competitive as ocean shipping, it is essential to deliver optimal support to our customers, as well as satisfy both industry and shipping lines requirements. We are confident that N4 will provide us with the fast, user-friendly and customized solution we need to support our goal of 50 percent growth over the next years."
The terminal has selected N4 to address its main operational challenges: vessel productivity and optimum use of gate and yard. "We admire Puerto Lirquen's growth ambitions and evolution in today's ever-changing market," said Chuck Schneider, Regional General Manager for Navis. "Puerto Lirquen understands that modern terminal operations directly impacts competitive advantage as well as customer satisfaction, so we will work with them closely during the implementation process to ensure a smooth transition and ultimately, optimized operations that will benefit the terminal's bottom line."
