Intralogistics company Beumer Group introduced a new high-performance sorter solution during the Modex 2018 show in Atlanta. The new technology is designed to meet the needs of warehouses and distribution centers working in e-commerce and Industry 4.0 environments, the company said. The show marked the North American debut of the new high-performance BG sorter.
Beumer also attracted attention with its virtual and augmented reality demonstrations. Using a virtual reality (VR) headset, attendees could take a virtual warehouse tour, moving boxes onto conveyor lines and following them through to their final destination. The demo gave attendees an inside look at an automated warehouse featuring Beumer technology. Attendees could also choose to follow their package through the warehouse via augmented reality (AR), using an iPad to track its path.
Beumer Group's director of sales, Terry Brown, says the company has been using the VR and AR technology tools in the field for about six months. They are used during the engineering phase of a project for the most part, allowing customers to simulate the operation of their new facility before it is up and running.
