Mobile work execution system provider Lucas Systems Inc. added a machine-learning component to its Dynamic Work Optimization (DWO) suite, a tool used to optimize pick paths and workflows in warehouses and distribution centers.
By bringing Big Data techniques to the warehouse, Lucas Systems allows DC managers use the DWO product to find the optimal path for picking both local batches and travel paths throughout the warehouse, Lucas executive VP and CMO Ron Kubera said in a press conference. Applying the machine-learning branch of artificial intelligence (AI) to that challenge produces a shorter, more efficient route than the sequential picking paths dictated by most warehouse management system (WMS) and warehouse control system (WCS) software, he said.
