Forklift manufacturer The Raymond Corp. has won the International Intralogistics and Forklift Truck of the Year (IFOY) award in the Special of the Year category for its Raymond Virtual Reality Simulator, the company said today.
The Simulator uses an existing Raymond forklift truck that is plugged into a virtual reality system via the company's patent-pending sPort, or Simulation Port, the company said. Forklift operators then use the system for virtual reality lessons that increase in complexity. Customers can also use the system to pre-screen incoming forklift applicants, according to Raymond. Forklifts used for simulation can be introduced back into the warehouse for actual material handling use, the company also said.
The IFOY award is sponsored by the VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Sector Association. Raymond executives accepted the award during an April 26 ceremony in Vienna, Austria.
