Port Canaveral lands $8.245 million state grant

Florida maritime freight facility Port Canaveral said today it has won an $8.245 million state grant to improve the roadways supporting its cruise and cargo businesses.

The money comes from the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund and will help the port handle its annual load of over 4 million cruise ship passengers and 5.5 million tons of cargo, including bulk, break-bulk, project, and containerized, according to the port.

Port officials said the funds would contribute to a $12 million roadway project designed to improve roadway access to its cruise and cargo terminals by increasing capacity for the Northside Cargo roads, adding new intersection signals for public safety and cargo traffic control, and making revisions to the Northside Cruise Roadway Network to relieve congestion.
