The Logistics Institute, which is based at the Georgia Institute of Technology, offers four multi-day courses on logistics and supply chain management on a rotating basis. Participants who complete all four will receive a certifica te in logistics management from the institute.

The next course in the series, World Class Transportation and Distribution, takes place at the Disney Board Walk Inn in Orlando, Fla., on May 13-16.

The course covers a number of topics, including domestic and international transportation; financial and performance measures for transportation; logistics network design; routing and scheduling; shipment planning and containerization; mode, carrier and third-party selection; transportation regulation and documentation; transportation management systems; and transportation organization design.

Also in Orlando, the World Class Warehousing and Material Handling course will be held from June 24-27. This program covers the principles and systems that are common to the best warehousing operations. The goal of the course is to create a warehouse master plan that supports a company's logistics strategies.

The next course in the series, World Class Inventory Management, will be held at the Global Learning Center in Atlanta from Oct. 21-24. The program examines principles of inventory management.

The fourth course, World Class Logistics and Supply Chain Strategy, will likely be offered next spring. The course examines world-class logistics and supply chain practices. It includes segments on the evolution of logistics, its role in business, logistics performance analysis, world-class warehousing, customer service and order processing, inventory planning and management, supply chain engineering, third-party logistics, logistics information systems, logistics organization design and international logistics.

The fee for each course is $3,550 or $11,900 for the complete program. For more information, contact The Logistics Institute at (404) 894-2343 or at www.tli.gatech.edu.

Also available from The Logistics Institute is an online version of the World-Class Warehousing and Material Handling course. The course fee is $2,800. Coming soon: an online version of World- Class Logistics and Supply Chain Strategy.
