The International Warehouse Logistics Association has delayed its vote on a name change for the group. IWLA management postponed the vote scheduled to take place at IWLA's annual convention last month and is asking members instead to vote on the proposed name via mail proxy by June 31.
IWLA itself is a relatively new name for the organization, which changed its name from the American Warehouse Association in 1996 in order to gain broader international acceptance. The current drive to change the name to the Strategic Logistics Outsourcing Council (SLOC) is part of an effort to re-brand the association.
In many cases, IWLA members are no longer just public warehousing companies—they now perform a wide range of outsourcing and logistics services for customers. The group has existed since 1891.
