AIM Inc., a trade association representing the automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) industry, has formed a U.S. chapter and announced initiatives to promote use of AIDC technologies. AIDC technologies include bar codes, data communications systems, radiofrequency identification, real-time locating systems and biometrics.
The group, whose membership includes both providers and users of AIDC technologies, says it wants to increase national awareness of those technologies and of the ways in which they're being applied in supply chain management, national security and patient safety. Its strategic objectives include becoming a recognized authority on evaluating, facilitating and gaining approval of standards and regulations for AIDC technologies and advocating the value of AIDC technologies.
The new U.S. chapter will focus on the existing AIDC sales channel plus manufacturers, software developers and integrators interested in expanding their capabilities through the use of AIDC technologies.
