And while we're on the subject of the Athens Games, we should note that behind the scenes, another team was hard at work during last month's Olympiad. DHL, a worldwide delivery and logistics company, performed as the official express delivery company of the U.S. Olympic Team for the Athens games. DHL provided express services for the athletes, U.S. Olympic Committee staff, volunteers and attending sponsors. The company also made sure that apparel and uniforms, equipment and sports medicine supplies got to the proper teams at each of the Olympic venues.
Earlier this year, DHL also carried out its own relay race of sorts. The company handled New York City's bid for the 2012 Olympic Games—picking up the bid documents from the U.S. Olympic Committee and handing them off to DHL's international team for final delivery to the International Olympic Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. DHL will also be coordinating delivery services for the U.S. teams during the Winter Olympic Games in 2006.
