As part of its ongoing commitment to U.S. troops serving overseas, DHL has joined Louisville Slugger and USA Cares to support "Operation Slugger." Operation Slugger is a nationwide drive to collect some 20 tons of "gently used" and new sporting equipment, which will be assembled into sports kits and sent to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Operation Slugger was born out of the numerous requests Louisville Slugger received from U.S. soldiers for baseball bats, gloves and other sports equipment.
The equipment is being collected at 100 VFW posts in communities across the country. The collection drive hit a snag recently when the transportation company that had agreed to pick up the items backed out at the last minute. But DHL stepped up to the plate and volunteered to pick up the donations at all 100 posts.
