Demand for conveyor equipment fell in June, according to the latest statistics from the Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA), released Tuesday.
Booked orders for conveyor equipment in June were down 1.8% compared to May and down 60.1% compared with June 2018, the association said. The year-over-year decline reflects record levels in June 2018, when conveyor equipment orders were more than twice the average level, according to CEMA's Executive Vice President Bob Reinfried.
Booked orders for bulk handling equipment were down 8% while orders for unit handling equipment were up 1.3% compared to May.
Shipments were down in June, as well. CEMA reported that overall shipments of conveyor equipment fell by nearly 21% compared to June 2018 and were down nearly 18% compared to May. June shipments of bulk handling equipment fell nearly 7% while shipments of unit handling equipment were down 21.3% compared to the previous month, the association said.
