Zebra launches data services platform to complement rugged handhelds
Savanna product follows Profitect acquisition as company moves to convert data into analysis.
Logistics technology provider Zebra Technologies Corp. today launched a cloud-based data services platform, as the company continues to grow beyond its roots as a vendor of rugged handheld devices by adding ways to analyze—not just collect—that raw data.
Lincolnshire, Ill.-based Zebra introduced Savanna Data Services, a cloud-based platform that is designed to provide a more complete picture of business operations. This new capability is part of theh company's data intelligence platform—known as Zebra Savanna—which allows adopters to collect and process data from Zebra hardware in real time, wringing actionable insights out of basic data.
The announcement follows Zebra's move in May to acquire the prescriptive analytics provider Profitect Inc., which helps retail and consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies tap into data from across the value chain to improve inventory and pricing accuracy, out of stocks, supply chain inefficiency, unsellable merchandise, and assortment discrepancies.
Savanna Data Services will allow businesses and software developers to build cutting-edge solutions pertinent to individual business and customer needs, without the expense of maintaining and managing their own platform, Zebra said. The platform makes intelligent edge device data, including third-party data services, available via application programming interfaces (APIs) to Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), software developers, and business innovators.
"Savanna Data Services enable the creation of bespoke, innovative and compelling solutions that will revolutionize how enterprises operate," Drew Ehlers, Zebra's global director, Portfolio Marketing, Enterprise Software, Office of the CTO, said in a release. "Our new developer experience allows users to exclusively leverage intelligent edge device data along with third-party data services via APIs through the Savanna platform to completely transform workflows, identify supply chain bottlenecks and produce outstanding business outcomes."
