Crowley Logistics adds 400 refrigerated cargo containers
New containers arrive in Guatemala in time for peak perishables shipping season, company says.
Ocean liner and logistics supply chain company Crowley Logistics has added 400 refrigerated (reefer) cargo containers to its fleet, the company said December 6.
Crowley said the containers arrived in Santo Tomas, Guatemala, in late November in time for the country's heavy northbound shipping season for perishables, which runs through May. The additional units are all 40-foot long, high cubes that feature wireless asset monitoring technology to ensure the cold chain is maintained the entire time goods are in transit, the company said.
"The acquisition of these containers is part of our continued commitment to maintain the best conditioned equipment for our customers and in the right quantities to meet their needs during peak season and throughout the rest of the year," Steve Collar, senior vice president and general manager for Crowley Logistics, said in a statement.
Crowley Logistics operates more than 53,000 pieces of owned and leased intermodal equipment, including more than 19,500 chassis, 23,000 dry containers and 5,200 refrigerated containers strategically located throughout the United States, Central America and the Caribbean. Crowley Logistics is a business unit of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Crowley Maritime Corp.
