Australian logistics software provider WiseTech Global said today it has acquired transportation management system (TMS) software vendor Trinium Technologies, as it continues to broaden its market share by buying up companies in the U.S. and abroad.
Los Angeles-based Trinium provides TMS software for the intermodal trucking sector in the U.S. and Canada. By joining WiseTech, Trinium will be able to accelerate innovation in its TMS applications and expand into markets adjacent to trucking, Trinium's managing director, Michael Thomas, said in a statement.
Following the move, Trinium will retain its leadership, including Thomas as well as Chief Technology Officer Barry Assadi and VP of Sales & Marketing Dennis Lane. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Sydney, Australia-based WiseTech acquired SaaS Transportation Inc. in May, adding the TMS vendor to its portfolio to gain access to the U.S. less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping sector, the firm said at the time. Last week, WiseTech also acquired Taric, a Spanish software firm offering customs management solutions including regulatory and tariff services, consultancy, training, process control, and documentation management.
WiseTech has also recently partnered with several companies to provide services for U.S. transportation activities, joining an e-commerce delivery consortium formed by Banyan Technology in 2017 and agreeing in 2018 to provide global distribution for 3Gtms' transportation management system, 3G-TM.
Buying Trinium allows WiseTech to expand its offerings in containerized road transport and grants it access to the firm's port connections and leadership team, WiseTech Founder and CEO Richard White said in a statement. "Trinium enables specialized road transport for the first and last mile container movement required on every international shipment, which is a highly specialized transport process distinct from general road freight," White said.
Trinium's software offers a TMS platform for the movement of sea freight containers between port terminals, inland rail terminals, container yards, and warehouses, the firm said. The system lets users automate processes including order receipt, customer service, dispatch operations, billing, and driver settlement, according to Trinium.
The Trinium acquisition "is in line with WiseTech Global's clearly stated strategy of accelerating long-term organic growth through targeted, valuable acquisitions," WiseTech said.
