Kevin Gue, one of the nation's leading industrial engineering scholars, has joined DC Velocity's growing list of bloggers.
Gue, the Tim Cook Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering at Auburn University, will discuss the relevance of emerging technologies and the topics and concepts from the research world that may have a bearing on the material handling industry. Gue's posts will focus on the content in the recently published "U.S. Roadmap for Material Handling & Logistics," for which he served as editor-in-chief. The Roadmap is an in-depth look at the opportunities and challenges facing the material handling sector in the years ahead.
"We are honored to have Kevin share his insights with DC Velocity's readers," said Mitch Mac Donald, group editorial director of Agile Business Media LLC, parent of DC Velocity and its sister publication, CSCMP's Supply Chain Quarterly. As holder of a prestigious chair endowed by the chairman and CEO of Apple Inc., Kevin's perspectives wield great influence in industry and academia. Our readers will benefit from his views on an industry that is growing in size and in stature."
Gue's first blog posting, which appeared earlier this month, addressed "augmented reality," like the use of Google Glass, in the warehouse.
"DC Velocity's strength lies in linking the worlds of transport, logistics, warehousing and distribution, and material handling to form a magazine that comes closest to covering the entire supply chain," Gue said. "It is a highly visible platform, and I look forward to sharing my thoughts with its readers and in receiving valuable feedback as well."
Gue graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1985 and received his Ph.D. from the School of Industrial & Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech in 1995. He has been a naval officer in the submarine force and has served on the faculty of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. Gue joined Auburn University in 2004.
Gue's research focuses on the design and control of logistics systems, with a focus on distribution, warehousing, and material handling. He is co-inventor of such warehouse aisle designs as the "Flying-V," "Fishbone," and "Chevron," among others. His research has been sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, the Defense Logistics Agency, and several private organizations.
