Yes, the warehousing and distribution community now has its own Internet work in process. In August, the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) launched WERC-ipedia, an interactive, online glossary of industry terms.
WERC-ipedia is a "wiki"—a document posted on the Internet that allows users to add material and edit existing information. The best-known wiki is Wikipedia, the international phenom that includes tens of thousands of entries on every conceivable subject.
The fast-growing warehousing wiki contains a searchable collection of more than 3,700 entries, including terminology, abbreviations, and acronyms. By contributing entries and editing existing content, WERC says, members of the warehousing and logistics community will be able to define the language of the industry through a process of peer review and approval.
WERC-ipedia, offered in partnership with Industrial Data and Information Inc., is located at WERC Online (www.werc.org). Go to "Resources" and choose "Tools."
