Industry newcomers who've begun to wonder if they'll ever master the lingo need not despair. APICS, the association of operations management, has developed a course that provides an introduction to the basic concepts and language of supply chain management.
Designed both for industry newcomers and those looking to advance into a management role, the course, "Basics of Supply Chain Management," will cover material requirements planning, just-in-time manufacturing, capacity management, and production activity control. It will touch on all aspects of the supply chain, including inventory management, forecasting, total quality management, and purchasing.
The course will help participants prepare for APICS' Basics of Supply Chain Management Exam, one of five exam modules that candidates must complete to earn the association's CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) designation. The next course is scheduled for Alexandria, Va., on Dec. 11-13. The cost is $1,095 for APICS members and $1,345 for nonmembers. For more information, visit www.apics.org.
