A small private plan carrying the incoming chairman of the American Trucking Associations (ATA), Mac McCormick of Bestway Express, crashed Oct. 27 near Lawrenceville, Ill. McCormick was killed. He was to have been installed as the ATA chairman at the group's annual meeting in Dallas the next day. "I am both stunned and saddened by the news of Mac McCormick's death," said ATA President Bill Graves. "Mac was a timeless ambassador for the trucking industry."
McCormick was ATA's first vice chairman. He had started Bestway Express in 1981. The company, which offers warehousing and logistics services, has since grown into a regional and dedicated fleet of more than 400 units.
