We'll be OK as long as terrorists agree to cross the border only during slow periods. According to a report in the Detroit Free Press, security on the Ambassador Bridge slackens off when traffic gets heavy. The newspaper reported that U.S. and Canadian inspectors on the bridge are routinely told by supervisors to wave vehicles through checkpoints without scrutiny during busy periods to alleviate congestion. The Ambassador Bridge, which connects Detroit with Windsor, Ontario, is the busiest northern border crossing.
Government officials denied that security is taking a backseat to commercial interests and refuted assertions that security is compromised in any way. But inspectors at the bridge stand by their allegations. Feeling secure yet?
