Systems, a provider of wireless solutions for securing, tracking, and managing high-value enterprise assets, has executed a multi-year contract with one of the world's leading logistics service providers to deploy its VeriWise Track and Trace system across a fleet of intermodal containers. The logistics provider acquired the VeriWise system to optimize its investment in a new fleet of intermodal containers.   • Acklands-Grainger Inc., Canada's largest distributor of industrial, safety and fastener products, has opened a new 122,000-square-foot facility in Saskatoon, SK.   • The European Logistics Association (ELA) honored Penske Logistics and Ford Motor Company with this year's European Award for Logistics Excellence for the Network Integrator concept developed by the two companies. The winning case study submission is a joint project of Ford's European Customer Service Division (FCSD) and Penske Logistics to optimize spare-parts supply chain enabling collaboration for multiple car brands across Europe. The "Network Integrator" application has led to savings in transportation of more than 25 million truck kilometers and a reduction of more than 10,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year.   • The storage, organization, and transport product company Akro-Mils has donated $1,000 in platform carts to the charity organization Mercy Ships, which provides free surgical procedures to patients in West Africa. Akro-Mils' donation to Mercy Ships included two VERSA/Deck platform carts. VERSA/Decks are heavy-duty structural foam carts featuring multiple handle and caster options. Peter Koontz, chief steward of the ship Africa Mercy, said the donated carts are making a difference for the crew of the world's largest charity hospital ship in serving an average of 1,500 meals per day.   • Penske Truck Leasing Co. L.P. ("PTL") and its wholly owned subsidiary PTL Finance Corp. have issued an aggregate of $1.75 billion in senior notes in two equally sized tranches of notes with three- and five-year maturities. The net proceeds from the sale of the notes will be used to refinance existing PTL debt. The offering was managed by J.P. Morgan, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and Wells Fargo Securities.   • The American Logistical Aid Network (ALAN) is launching a new capabilities mapping tool that will enable ALAN to geographically target companies with the potential to provide necessary resources during disasters. The project is funded by grants from The UPS Foundation and the Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Grant Program, Project on Supply Chain Resilience. The capabilities mapping tool is a geo-coding tool that will be populated with data on member companies from ALAN's 21 association partners. Companies will be categorized according to their key product or service offerings and geographic footprint.
