Toshiba goes big with its new thermal bar-code printer

By DC Velocity Staff

Toshiba America Business Solutions today unveiled its large-format thermal bar-code printer. The B-EX6 high-speed (12-inches-per-second) printer delivers up to six-inch labels for applications within manufacturing, supply chain, and logistics environments. It is designed with new "Ribbon Save" technology that optimizes ribbon consumption while reducing waste. If part of the label requires no print, the ribbon stops and allows the label to continue moving until further printing is required. Many labels use center-justified type, leaving much of the six-inch label white, says Dan Trainor, business development manager of bar-code solutions. The B-EX6 can use a three-inch ribbon instead of a six-inch ribbon to help reduce waste. A large-capacity ribbon (up to 800 meters) lessens the need for frequent media replacement, and the B-EX6 printheads are backed by a three-million linear inch warranty.
