Spacesaver Industrial today introduced a new line of "mobilized storage systems" that it said will enable manufacturers and material-handling and logistics companies to increase their warehouse and distribution center capacity without expanding their existing facilities or leasing new space.
The company's "ActivRAC Mobilized Storage" takes stationary or fixed rows of pallet racking, mounts them on carriages, and makes them mobile. The carriages travel by wheels on a rail system. By moving laterally, the system eliminates aisles and compresses materials into a smaller footprint compared with a stationary system, Spacesaver says. In this way, users "uncover square footage they never knew existed," says Spacesaver.
The mobilized storage system is designed for support materials, such as spare parts and tools, as well as low-turn items, according to the company.
"There are many strategies and solutions for managing fast-moving materials, which make up the largest percentage of items at most manufacturing and distribution operations," said Ken Bowman, Spacesaver's vice president. "Yet progressive companies recognize the need to get more out of their existing facility and more effectively manage the materials that make up a smaller yet critical part of their operation in order to succeed."
The new line is comprised of three models with 8,000–, 16,000–, and 30,000–pound per carriage section capacity.
